Import from Plausible

VersaTailor allows you to seamlessly import your historical Plausible Analytics data, giving you a complete view of your website's performance. This guide will walk you through the import process step by step.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • A VersaTailor account set up
  • Access to your Plausible Analytics dashboard
  • Your Plausible data export file

Step 1: Export Your Plausible Data

First, you'll need to export your data from Plausible Analytics:

  1. Log in to your Plausible Analytics dashboard
  2. Go to your website's settings page
  3. Look for the "Imports & Exports" section
  4. Click on "Export to CSV" in the data export area
  5. Wait for the email notification with your export link
  6. Download your data within 24 hours (the link expires after that)

Step 2: Import to VersaTailor

Now, let's import your data into VersaTailor:

  1. Open your VersaTailor dashboard
  2. Go to your website settings
  3. Click on the "Import" tab
  4. Find the Plausible Analytics card and click "Import"
  5. Upload your Plausible ZIP file in the import modal
  6. Monitor the progress bar during processing

Step 3: Managing Imported Data

Need to remove imported Plausible data? Here's how:

  1. Go to your website settings
  2. Open the "Import" tab
  3. Scroll to "Remove Imported Data"
  4. Click "Remove Plausible Data"
  5. Confirm the removal

Important Information

Important: Make sure you're uploading the original ZIP file from Plausible without modifying its contents. This ensures all your data is imported correctly.

Warning

Warning: Removing imported data is a permanent action and cannot be reversed. Make sure you have a backup if needed.

What Gets Imported

  • Page views: All page view data within the selected date range
  • Referrers: Traffic source information
  • Countries: Geographic data
  • Devices: Device and browser information
  • Custom events: Any custom events you were tracking

Troubleshooting

Import Fails

If the import fails:

  1. Check that you're uploading the correct ZIP file from Plausible
  2. Ensure the file hasn't been modified or corrupted
  3. Verify you have sufficient storage space
  4. Contact support if the issue persists

Data Not Appearing

If imported data doesn't appear:

  1. Wait a few minutes for processing to complete
  2. Check the import status in your VersaTailor dashboard
  3. Verify the date range of imported data
  4. Contact support if data is missing

Best Practices

  • Use original files: Always upload the original ZIP file from Plausible
  • Backup your data: Keep a backup of your Plausible data before importing
  • Monitor the process: Watch the import progress and check for any errors
  • Verify results: After import, verify that your data appears correctly
